Drugs are not a new problem facing the United States, but as they continue to be ignored by Democrats, America will continue to suffer as a whole.
While cocaine and meth are still problems that need to be addressed, the bigger issue in recent years has become opioids.
According to recent studies, nearly 2,000 Americans die every week from overdoses related to opioids, and there is no real end in sight to the problem with Democrats in charge.
Instead of addressing the problem and putting those responsible behind bars, Democrats instead want “safer drug usage” that allows anyone the opportunity to get addicted to opioids.
So long as Democrats continue to ignore the real crisis, Americans as a whole will suffer.
Drugs involve not only the users themselves but everyone else who is affected by the use as well. This includes businesses that have lost productivity and hospitals that have to treat these users on the taxpayers’ dime.
Why Opioids are so prevalent in America today
Opioids such as Fentanyl can be largely traced to the pharmaceutical industry, which heavily marketed them as a way to treat pain.
The main difference between popular drug such as heroin and fentanyl is that the latter is not only cheaper to obtain but is also upwards of 50 times more potent than the former. Fentanyl can also be prescribed by doctors as a painkiller, and this along with drug companies promoting it has made it much more popular.
Democrats want to sweep the Opioid Epidemic under the rug
Instead of truly addressing the topic and going after the offenders at their sources, Democrats would rather sweep the entire drug problem under the rug and blame Republicans for the issue instead. It is a common tactic in politics these days unfortunately, but hopefully it will come to a point where they will be forced to address it.
Some solutions to the drug problems facing America
The main solution to the opioid epidemic that is plaguing the United States is to go after the root causes of it. The first and most prominent root cause is Mexican drug cartels that cross the Southern border on a daily basis. President Trump knew this was an issue and made it a priority to bolster border patrol agents and further the border wall to keep drug cartels out.
Democrats continue to promote illegal immigration to the detriment of America
Democrats, on the other hand, would rather have open borders, less border security, and more funds put towards “community centers” where illegal immigrants can be housed on the taxpayers’ dime. Not only are drug cartels allowed to run rampant during the Biden Administration, but taxpayers have to contribute more towards illegal immigration.
Drug traffickers and doctors must be held accountable
Drug traffickers and doctors are more root causes to the opioid epidemic facing America right now, and both need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent. Examples must be made of so others will think twice of continuing on with their illegal acts. Doctors in particular are known to overprescribe opioids and must face the consequences of their actions.
While it is understandable to have treatment options available for users who may have become addicted to drugs such as fentanyl, there also needs to be a greater emphasis placed upon putting people who give the users drugs in chains. With Democrats having a soft stance on the issue, it will continue to fester and get worse.
Pharmaceutical companies must be held accountable by Democrats
Along with doctors, pharmaceutical companies must be held accountable as well. Democrats would rather preserve things the way they are, however, with money flowing into their coffers from the industry. Even if you go back to the 2008 Democratic Convention, who were the main donators at it? AstraZeneca, Eli Lilly, Amgen, and Merck, some of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. While Democrats may pay lip service and say they want to hold pharmaceutical companies accountable for the opioid epidemic, nothing substantive will be accomplished.
It goes without saying that the Citizens United case in 2010 harmed America in more ways than anyone could imagine. The Supreme Court ruling basically allowed companies to donate to political campaigns in a nearly unlimited manner. This means that issues such as the opioid epidemic will continue to be swept under the rug if it goes against drug companies and their interests.
Democrats must recognize their stance on drugs is harming everyone
Being soft on the borders, paying lip service to drug companies, and allowing for “safer drug usage” are all harming Americans much more than actually helping them. In what world is it a sensible solution to allow more individuals to become addicted to drugs? It is truly insane to hold a position like that, but Democrats must have their reasons.
The consequences of the drug problem as a whole cannot be understated. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the issue costs the United States nearly $80 billion annually due to increased healthcare costs. This does not even take into consideration the increase in children in foster care homes as a result of their parents becoming addicts.
The opioid epidemic is an issue Republicans should run on in 2024
How should Republicans react to the epidemic for the upcoming election in 2024? First, it would be important to highlight the existing position held on border security. As the economy gets worse and the wallets of Americans get tighter, there will be much less support for the “community centers” Democrats are so in favor of on the Southern border.
Border security is an issue that can be linked to the opioid epidemic
Border security and the opioid epidemic are interlinked, and Republicans can show that by being tough on the border, they can in turn slow down the epidemic and the negative effects both are having on the United States as a whole. Tough on the border along with being tough on crime are both bread and butter issues the Republicans can easily run on against Democrats in the upcoming elections.
